Due to continuous rains in Assam, there have been floods in many districts. Houses, roads, everything has been submerged in water, due to which lakhs of people are facing huge problems. So far 68 people have died due to floods in the state, while more than 5.24 lakh people are affected by this natural disaster. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the MPs of Assam and reviewed the flood situation in the state.
According to the information, on Tuesday, PM Modi held a meeting with the MPs of the state on the flood situation in various parts of Assam. This meeting was held in the Prime Minister’s Office in the Parliament in which NDA’s Lok Sabha-Rajya Sabha MP from Assam, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of State Pabitra Margherita, Assam BJP President Dilip Saikia and other MPs participated.
11,41,640 people affected
During the meeting, the MPs informed the Prime Minister about the damage caused by the floods and the relief and rehabilitation works being carried out by the state Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma government. State BJP President Dilip Saikia gave a detailed presentation on the ground situation of floods in the state. He said that from April 29 to July 25, 25 districts and 77 revenue circles in the state have been affected by floods, in which 2,145 villages are in the grip of floods. He told that 11,41,640 people have been affected.
Assam Parliamentarians met in Kolkata and discussed various current situational situations.

29,923 people were evacuated to safe places
He said that the state government has provided shelter to 68,258 people in 210 relief camps, while 1,610 relief distribution centers have been set up. Along with this, it was also told that 68 people have died in the state due to floods and 8 people are still missing. It was also informed that 425 houses have been completely destroyed due to the flood, while 3,550 houses have suffered partial damage. He said that the state government evacuated 29,923 people to safe places.
PM Modi assured help
In the meeting, while giving instructions to the MPs, Prime Minister Modi shared his experience of dealing with natural disasters as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. Referring to Gujarat’s disaster management model, the PM stressed on immediate relief and adherence to SOP (Standard Operating Procedure). He directed to provide comprehensive relief kits to the flood affected families on the lines of Gujarat. It was suggested to include food items, clothes, medicines, utensils and other essential household items in this relief kit. He assured all possible assistance to the state from the Central Government.
Relief material worth Rs 12 crore will be distributed
The MPs informed the PM about further preparations that relief operations will be started from Guwahati on Wednesday (July 29). In this, relief material worth ₹ 12 crore will be distributed to the flood affected families. The Central team is already present in Assam to assess the damage caused by the floods. A senior minister of the central government can also be sent to Assam for better coordination and supervision of relief operations.
Flood water entered houses
Sivasagar, Golaghat, Jorhat and Charaideo districts in Assam have been most affected by floods. Thousands of families are facing acute shortage of food, water, shelter and medical aid. The flood situation in Sivasagar district is continuously worsening. In Naujan village here, flood water entered the houses and the roads were submerged. People are facing a crisis of shelter, food and safe drinking water. Relief operations have been intensified to help the people.
