‘Phulauri Bina Chutney Kaise Bani’ is basically a popular Bhojpuri folk song. Its roots are found in the folk culture of Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh. This song also reached abroad with the Bhojpuri speaking people who were taken to Caribbean countries as indentured laborers during the British rule. There this song combined with local music gave birth to a new genre, which is today called ‘Chutney Music’. Which is now visible in Bollywood films also.

The song was released in 1969

This song was first presented by internationally known famous singer Sunder Popo in his own style in 1969. He gave a new look to Bhojpuri folk tune by mixing it with Caribbean pop and folk music. After this, Babla and Kanchan recreated it in 1982, which became quite popular. With time many versions of this song emerged. In the year 1994, its tune was used in the film ‘Ghar Ki Izzat’. However, the lyrics of the song were different.

Bhojpuri singer Kalpana Patowari also sang it in a new style, which was part of the album ‘Aara Hile Chhapra Hile’. Then this song was also heard in the album ‘Agre Ka Ghaghra’. Entry of this song in Bollywood in the year 2012 ‘Dabangg 2’ Happened through film. In the film, its Bollywood version was heard in the voices of Mamta Sharma and Wajid Ali, which brought it to the new generation. Now in 2026, ‘Dhamal 4’ has again brought this legacy on the big screen.
