Jude Bellingham equals Pele, England in FIFA World Cup semi-finals for the fourth time

FIFA World Cup 2026: England has also booked its ticket for the semi-finals. It defeated Norway 2-1 in the quarter-finals. Both goals for England were scored by their midfielder Jude Bellingham. With those two goals, Bellingham has also equaled Pelé. This is the fourth time that the England team has reached the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup. Earlier, England had reached the semi-finals in the 1966, 1990 and 2018 World Cups.

The quarter-final match between England and Norway was played at Miami Stadium. The first goal of this match was scored by Andres Sheldrepp for Norway in the 36th minute. With this, Andres also became the first Norwegian player to score a goal in the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup.

Andres’ goal gave Norway the lead but England also equalized at 1-1 just before the end of the first half. The first goal for England was scored by Judd Bellingham in the second minute of extra time of the first half. That means he brought England on par in the 47th minute.

Jude Bellingham got England a ticket to the semi-finals

After the first half ended in a 1-1 draw, when the second half started, the match became even more exciting. No one from both the teams scored a goal in the stipulated time. But, in the third minute of extra time of the second half, England midfielder Jude Bellingham once again managed to score a goal. The result was that England entered the semi-finals by winning the match against Norway 2-1.

How did Jude Bellingham match up with Pele?

Jude Bellingham also equaled Pelé by scoring 2 goals in the quarter-finals against Norway. He has made this equality in terms of scoring most goals in the FIFA World Cup at the age of 23 years or less. Both of them currently have 7-7 goals. In this case, Kylian Mbappe is on top with 12 goals. Bellingham is also the second youngest footballer after Pele to score 2 plus goals in two consecutive knock-out matches of the FIFA World Cup.

Jude Bellingham is also on the way to breaking the record of scoring most goals in a World Cup for England. At present, with 6 goals, he is on par with Gary Linker and Harry Kane in this race.
