
Only a few days are left for Amarnath Yatra 2026 to begin. In such a situation, preparations are going on in full swing to make the journey safe and smooth. In this series, Jammu and Kashmir Police organized a comprehensive mock rescue drill of Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) on Sunday (28 June). The purpose of the mock drill was to test the preparedness and quick response capability of the security forces in case of any possible terrorist attack.
According to the information, this exercise was conducted at a total of 18 different places on the yatra route, so that the preparedness of the security forces could be assessed to deal with any emergency. This mock drill was conducted on both the yatra routes, Pahalgam and Baltal. Many sensitive places including Holy Cave, Panjtarni, Sheshnag, Chandanwadi were included in this.

The objective of the exercise was to test the preparedness for rescue operations during natural disasters, medical emergencies, landslides, flash floods and other possible crises. During the mock drill, mountain rescue teams practiced relief and rescue operations, evacuation of injured to safety, communication systems, use of rescue equipment and evacuation procedures. Along with this, coordination and quick response capability between various agencies was also tested.
Satisfactory performance during mock drill
According to Jammu and Kashmir Police, all the mountain rescue teams performed satisfactorily during the mock drill and demonstrated their full preparedness to deal with any emergency. Officials say that the purpose of such exercise is to ensure the safety of the devotees during the yatra and to take immediate effective action in case of any unexpected situation.
The administration says that every aspect of the security arrangements is being constantly reviewed to make the Amarnath Yatra 2026 completely safe, organized and successful. This mock drill of mountain rescue teams is also an important part of the same preparation, so that a safe environment can be provided to the devotees during the yatra.
The journey will start from 3rd July
The annual pilgrimage of Baba Amarnath is starting from July 3, which will last for 57 days and will end on August 28, the day of Rakshabandhan. In view of the yatra, security arrangements are being further strengthened in Jammu and Kashmir. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will flag off the first batch of Amarnath pilgrims from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas on July 2.
