
Preparations are going on in full swing in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir for the Amarnath Yatra starting next month. Security agencies also seem to be fully alert. In this series, a joint mock drill was organized by National Security Guard (NSG) and Special Operation Group (SOG) at Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu on Monday.
The objective of the mock drill before the commencement of the Yatra was to test the preparedness and quick response capability of the security forces in case of any possible terrorist attack. During the exercise, security personnel demonstrated how devotees would be evacuated safely if they were taken hostage during a terrorist attack.
Preparations for safe evacuation of hostages
Through the drill, NSG and SOG personnel practiced different strategies to neutralize terrorists, rescue hostages and secure the entire area. During this, the security forces also demonstrated the ability to coordinate and take immediate action in emergency situations.
Rooms are being repaired to welcome the devotees in the base camp set up at Yatri Niwas in Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu for the Amarnath Yatra. Also the work of electrical fitting and painting has been completed. Soon the Yatri Niwas will be handed over to the Tourism Department so that the remaining arrangements for the devotees can be completed by the department.
When will Amarnath Yatra start?
Amarnath Yatra, which takes place every year, is starting from 3rd July next month. In view of the yatra, security arrangements are being further strengthened in Jammu and Kashmir. Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas is the main base camp for pilgrims traveling from Jammu.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will flag off the first batch of Amarnath pilgrims from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas on July 2. In view of this, security agencies are continuously finalizing preparations to deal with any challenge.
