
TRAI Telecom Subscriber Data: In the telecom sector, there is a war between companies to attract more and more customers. There seems to be a big reversal from the latest data of TRAI which has come out recently, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has released the data of April 2026, which shows that Bharti Airtel has defeated Reliance Jio in terms of adding new customers. On the other hand, the fortunes of Vodafone Idea (Vi) and government company BSNL also seem to be changing, because on one hand both these companies were losing subscribers every month but now the graph of these companies in terms of adding new customers also seems to be improving.
Airtel Subscribers: How many subscribers added?
According to the latest data of TRAI, Airtel remained on top in terms of subscriber growth in all segments, in April the company has added 34.82 lakh net new customers which includes 31.39 lakh new customers in the wireless or mobile segment and 3.43 lakh new customers in the wireline segment.
The company also left its competitor Reliance Jio behind in adding net subscribers in the wireline segment this month. According to TRAI’s monthly subscriber report, the total telecom subscriber base increased by 69.5 lakh in April to reach an all-time high of 133.75 crore.
It has also been informed in the report that the total number of telephone subscribers in India increased from 1330.58 million (approximately 133.05 crore) at the end of March 2026 to 1337.54 million (approximately 133.75 crore) at the end of April 2026.
Jio Subscribers: How was the condition of Reliance Jio?
Jio has added 30.84 lakh net subscribers which includes 29.42 lakh new mobile connections and 1.42 lakh wireline connections. The wireless subscriber base, which includes mobile and fixed wireless access connections, increased to 128.89 crore at the end of April 2026, from 128.23 crore in the previous month (March).
Vodafone Idea (Vi) and BSNL Subscribers: Luck is rising
Vodafone Idea has added 53257 new subscribers and BSNL has added 76,175 new subscribers. At the same time, government telecom MTNL lost 33,403 subscribers. At the end of April 2026, the number of wireline subscribers increased from 4.82 crore in March to 4.85 crore. Subscribers of all three private telecom operators and BSNL increased, while MTNL suffered losses.
