Story: The film begins in a jail in Madurai, where our hero Vetri (Thalapathy Vijay) is serving a sentence. The interesting thing is that it was not the police who sent him to jail, but his own mother (Revati). But Vetri is no ordinary prisoner. The twist in the story comes when the jail warden Srikanth (Gautham Vasudev Menon) hands over the responsibility of his daughter Viji to Vetri before she dies in an accident. Vetri’s dream is to make Viji an officer in the country’s army. But meanwhile enters international criminal John Himmler (Bobby Deol). John is a dreaded goon who makes governments dance at his fingertips and hijacks a big ship full of weapons to create havoc in India. How is the film ‘Jan Neta’?
If you are a staunch fan of Thalapathy Vijay, then this film is no less than a big festival for you. From the first frame to the last scene of the film, only and only Thalapathy Vijay rules. Such references to his old iconic scenes, dialogues and his real life speeches have been included in the film, which are no less than a treat for his fans. Seeing that dance sequence of Vijay on the song ‘Thalapathy Kacheri’, it seems that the guy is really celebrating his last film in the theater with the fans.

In the second half, the film shifts more to Vijay’s vision than the story, which is no less than a big surprise for his fans. Even though this mass leader is a remake of the Telugu film ‘Bhagwant Kesari’, such references to Tamil Nadu’s local politics and MGR are included in it that it makes the heart happy. It may be possible that some of the political issues may seem a bit new to our desi Hindi audience, but if you are a fan of South films, then Thalapathy Vijay’s swag and his charisma keep you connected to the screen throughout the film.
Direction and making
Director H. Vinod has shot the action scenes in a very stylish style. When Anirudh Ravichander’s background music plays on Vijay’s entry, the theater speakers start blasting, but if the editor had used a little scissors, the film could have been even more crisp and explosive.

Thalapathy Vijay (Vetri) has given his all in this last film of his career. His action, his swag, his emotion and his patented style, everything is perfect. He alone dominates every frame of the film. Be it just a silent look on screen or a dialogue (like ‘What bro? It’s very wrong bro!’), the audience will be forced to whistle.
Talking about Bobby Deol (John Himmler), after ‘Animal’, Lord Bobby has once again returned as a dreaded villain. He has given a tough competition to Vijay with his physique and calm but scary style. The face-to-face scenes between the two are worth watching.
Pooja Hegde and Mamita Baiju (Viji): The real surprise package of the film is Mamita Baiju! Pooja Hegde didn’t have much to do in the film (she was limited to a small role of a TV journalist), but Mamita breathed life into the father-daughter bonding scenes with Vijay. The emotional moments between the two touch the heart.
Rest of the starcast: The film has dozens of big actors like Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Gautam Vasudev Menon, Revathi, Naren and YouTuber Madan Gauri. He has tried his best to do justice to his characters.
Watch the movie or not?
Some people may find the duration of the film too long. Too many sermons have been crammed in the middle of the story, they could have been reduced.
Overall, ‘Jan Neta’ is a grand and blockbuster tribute to the 30 years of golden career of Thalapathy Vijay. If you are a fan of Vijay and want to whistle and clap his name in theatres, then this film is a ‘must watch’ for you.
