On the instructions of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind President Maulana Mahmood Madani, a delegation led by the organization’s General Secretary Maulana Mohammad Hakimuddin Qasmi met ACP Mangolpuri Murari Lal at Rani Bagh police station on Monday. During this, the delegation lodged a protest against the recent demolition of the wall of the Madrasa near Ramlila Ground in Pitampura (Shakur Basti).
The delegation strongly condemned the statements made by local MLA Karnail Singh and demanded immediate and fair legal action from Delhi Police. The delegation also handed over several important evidences including video recordings, media reports and social media materials to the police officials. It was clarified in the memorandum that the claim by MLA Karnail Singh that the demolished structure or wall was a part of a mosque or a madrassa is completely baseless and misleading. The said structure was neither a part of a mosque nor a madrassa, but it was deliberately presented in this form with the aim of inciting communal sentiments and misleading the public.
Inciting and hateful statements
The memorandum further said that MLA Karnail Singh not only took the law into his own hands and took action to demolish the wall, but also made continuous inflammatory and hate-mongering statements, which were broadcast by national media houses and which went widely viral on social media. The MLA himself shared these videos and news on his Facebook account and presented it as his achievement. In a video he allegedly said that neither a madrassa nor a mosque will be allowed to run here.
created an atmosphere of communal tension
Expressing deep concern, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind said that such statements and activities have created an atmosphere of fear, insecurity and communal tension in the area and have affected the law and order situation. The memorandum said that carrying out acts of vandalism by an elected public representative amidst a slogan-shouting crowd and targeting a particular religious community amounts to open incitement and spreading hatred, which may give rise to anarchy and a tendency to take law into one’s own hands in the future.
Demand to register FIR against MLA
The delegation demanded from Delhi Police that an FIR should be immediately registered against the MLA under sections 153A, 153B, 295A, 505 and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Also, the truth should be brought before the public by conducting an impartial and timely investigation into the nature and ownership of the demolished structure. Apart from this, a demand was also made for adequate police arrangements to ensure the safety of the worshipers coming to the mosque and to maintain peace in the area.
Administration’s responsibility to keep safe
The memorandum also said that no person, irrespective of political position or influence, should be allowed to take the law into his own hands. It is the responsibility of the administration to protect the constitutional rights of all citizens and to safeguard the country’s communal unity and social harmony at all costs.
The delegation included Jamiat Ulema Delhi General Secretary Maulana Aftab Alam Siddiqui, Vice President Maulana Mufti Khalil Qasmi, Qari Mohammad Arif Qasmi, Nazim Tanzim Hafiz Mohammad Yusuf Al-Azmi, Mufti Zakir Hussain Qasmi from the central office and local officials Maulana Jamshed (Imam, Masjid Noor-ul-Huda, Pitampura) and Dr. Mohammad Yousuf.
