Sourav Ganguly, ICC Hall of Fame 2026: Sourav Ganguly, one of the most influential captains in the history of Indian cricket, is celebrating his 54th birthday today (8th July). On this special occasion, while the entire sports world and fans are congratulating him on social media, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided to give the world’s biggest cricket honor to Sourav Ganguly on his birthday. According to media reports, Sourav Ganguly is being included in ICC’s ‘Hall of Fame’ for his illustrious and historic career.
Ganguly will become the 12th Indian to receive this honor
Once he joins the Hall of Fame, Sourav Ganguly will become the 12th cricketer from India to make it to this biggest elite club of the game. At the same time, if we talk about Indian male cricketers, he will be only the 10th male player from the country to be included in the ICC Hall of Fame. Even after so many years of retirement, this honor of ‘Prince of Kolkata’ proves how great is the stature of his contribution to world cricket.
‘Dada”s brilliant international career
Sourav Ganguly made his debut for India at the age of just 20 and after that he served Team India for 16 consecutive years. Ganguly, who said goodbye to cricket in 2008, made many unmatched records with the bat. He scored a total of 18,575 runs in his international career. Out of which 11,363 runs came in ODI format and 7,212 runs came in Test format. At the same time, Sourav Ganguly captained India in 49 test matches, in which 21 were won, 13 lost and 15 matches were drawn. Apart from this, he also took command of the team in 146 ODI matches, in which it won 76 matches and faced defeat in 65 matches.
Sourav Ganguly is not remembered just for the win-loss record of his captaincy, but he was a leader who changed the DNA of Indian cricket. In the 90s, the Indian team was a lion at home, but often succumbed on foreign pitches. Ganguly changed this thinking as soon as he took over the captaincy. He assured the entire team and the country that Team India can win the match even by going to foreign soil. Ganguly, apart from being an excellent leader, is also an expert in identifying skills. In times of crisis, he openly supported young players like Yuvraj Singh, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Zaheer Khan, Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh and Ashish Nehra. Even after being away from the cricket field in 2008, Ganguly remained close to the game through BCCI President and other administrative roles.
