Puri Jagannath Temple Secrets: Ashadh month has started from today. On the second day of Shukla Paksha of this month, Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath is taken out in the temple located in Puri, Odisha. During the Rath Yatra, the chariots of his elder brother Balabhadra and Subhadra Devi are also taken out. This year this holy festival of Lord Jagannath will start from 16th July and continue till 24th July. By pulling the ropes of the chariots during the Rath Yatra of religious belief, the sins of many births are removed.
This is the reason why a large number of devotees attend the Rath Yatra of Jagannath Ji. There are many such secrets of Jagannath ji’s temple, people are shocked to know about them. One of these is that the idols of this Dham are changed every 12 years. This ritual is called ‘Navaklevar’, which means new body. In the ‘Navaklevar’ ritual, the idols of Shri Jagannath, Balabhadra, Subhadra Devi and Sudarshan installed in the Jagannath temple are changed.
The ritual is very secret
The reason behind changing the statues of Shri Jagannath, Balabhadra, Subhadra Devi and Sudarshan is that these statues are made of wood and they do not break, hence these statues are changed. During the Navakalevar ritual, lights across the city are switched off. Due to this there is darkness everywhere. This is done because this ritual is done very secretly.
Even the temple priests do not observe the rituals
According to religious beliefs, this process is kept confidential, so that when this work is done, no one can see it. Not only this, the priests of the temple who perform this ritual also do not see it. The idols of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, Subhadra and Sudarshan ji are made from Neem wood. The chief priest of the temple selects the trees to make the idols. It is believed that Neem should be about 100 years old and should not have any kind of defect.
