But now, 22 years after the film, director Kunal Kohli has revealed that there was no good bonding between Rani Mukherjee and Saif during the shooting of the film.

Kunal Kohli told that during the shooting of ‘Hum Tum’, there was no good friendship between Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukherjee at all. The wonderful bonding that was seen between the two on screen was nothing like that in real life. Kunal said, they did not like each other much off-screen.

Rani had refused to do the scene

According to the director, both of them did not even talk to each other much and lived separately on the set. This was the reason why it became very difficult to shoot some romantic scenes of the film. He told that during the film’s song ‘Sanson Ko Sanson Mein’, Rani Mukherjee was very uncomfortable with this scene. At first she refused to do it, but later agreed to do just one take. The director has described that kissing scene of the song as the worst kiss of Hindi cinema.

Rani started laughing during the shooting

Talking about the shooting, he told that while shooting the scene, Rani was so nervous that she started laughing while doing the scene and the same was recorded in the camera. Kunal jokingly said that when he saw the scene in the edit, he realized that Rani was laughing completely and that is why the scene started looking strange. However, despite all these difficulties, ‘Hum Tum’ proved to be a big hit at the box office. This film gave a new direction to Saif Ali Khan’s career. Not only this, Saif also received the National Award for this film.
