
Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Ghaziabad Branch Office (GZBO) raided two helmet manufacturing units based on information received regarding violation of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016. During this period, around 1,100 ISI marked helmets were seized. This action of search and seizure was taken under Section 28 of the BIS Act, 2016.
The first enforcement team was led by Pawan Kumar Ora, Scientist-C and Deputy Director and Shailendra Kumar Verma, Scientist-C and Deputy Director. The team along with other officers and staff of Bureau of Indian Standards, Ghaziabad branch office raided a helmet manufacturing unit located at Duhai Industrial Area, Delhi-Meerut Road, Ghaziabad.

Where did the raid take place in Ghaziabad?
The second enforcement team was led by Rajendra Kumar Palasania, Scientist-C and Deputy Director and Prashant Yadav, Scientist-C and Deputy Director. The team conducted a search operation at a unit located at Anand Industrial Estate, Mohan Nagar, Ghaziabad 201007. During the operation, 593 ISI marked helmets were seized. Investigation also found that the BIS license of the concerned unit had expired.
During the raid, cases of misuse of BIS Standard Mark (ISI Mark) were found in both the units. Manufacturing, storing and making available for sale helmets marked with different brand names was found to be in violation of the provisions of the BIS Act, 2016. The products in question were seized pending further legal action.

How to check a helmet?
Yes. Bhavani, Scientist-F, Senior Director & Head, Ghaziabad Branch Office (GZBO), Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), informed that necessary legal action will be taken against the concerned firms under the provisions of BIS Act, 2016. He further informed that as per Section 29 of the BIS Act, 2016, in case of first violation, this offense is punishable with imprisonment of up to two years or a fine of not less than ₹ 2,00,000. The amount of fine can be increased up to ten times the value of the goods concerned or both the punishments can be given together.
Bureau of Indian Standards has appealed to consumers to check the authenticity of all mandatory certified products including helmets through BIS CARE App before purchasing. Any complaint related to misuse of ISI mark can be reported through BIS CARE App, e-mail [email protected] or Bureau of Indian Standards, Ghaziabad Branch Office. The identity of the complainant will be kept completely confidential.
