Aam Aadmi Party’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has written a letter to 29 auto manufacturing companies of the country, demanding to clarify within a week whether it is safe to use E-20 (20 percent ethanol blended petrol) in old vehicles? He has written a separate letter to Toyota, Hero and Maruti, which claimed in the government press conference that the use of E-20 in old vehicles is safe. He has asked that your owner manual does not allow 10 percent ethanol blended petrol in old vehicles under any circumstances. In such a situation, all three companies should tell the country in writing whether E-20 is safe in old vehicles and whether the mileage is reduced by only 4-5 percent. Also, will the three companies compensate the consumer if the mileage of the vehicle decreases by more than 5-10 percent or if any component gets damaged?
Arvind Kejriwal Has written a second letter to 26 other companies and asked them to clarify whether it is possible to use E-20 in their old vehicles? By using this, how many particles will fall on the vehicle and how much damage will be caused? Will auto companies compensate the consumer if the mileage of a vehicle decreases or any component gets damaged? He also said that on Thursday I will go to some petrol pumps, service centers and mechanics to know the consumer opinion regarding E-20 petrol.
Questions asked by Toyota, Maruti and Hero
Arvind Kejriwal told that in the letter written to Toyota, Maruti and Hero, it has been said that you had said in the government press conference on July 4 that E-20 can be used in old vehicles, the mileage is reduced by 4-5 percent, but there is no damage to the vehicle. But the owner manual tells you that under no circumstances should more than 10 percent ethanol blended petrol be used in old vehicles manufactured before 2023.
There is a contradiction in both these situations. The owner’s manual issued by these companies, which is an agreement between the consumer and the company, says one thing and the representatives of the companies go to government press conferences and say something else.
Arvind Kejriwal said that this is not a minor mistake or anomaly. What is the real situation of these companies, they should make it public in writing before the country. Within a week of receiving the letter, these companies should give a clear answer whether E-20 petrol can be used in old vehicles?
Does it reduce the mileage by only 4-5 percent and does it not cause any damage to the vehicle? If so, then two questions have been asked to them that if someone’s mileage is reduced by more than 5 to 10 percent, will they compensate that consumer? If any component gets damaged due to use of E-20, will the consumer be compensated for the component?
Clear the controversy regarding E-20-Kejriwal
Arvind Kejriwal said that a general letter has been written to 26 other companies. It is written that many people use their product. So they should clear their stand. Because at present there is a lot of controversy going on regarding E-20. They should clear their stand whether E-20 can be used in their old vehicles before 2023? Will the mileage reduce because of that? If it decreases, by how much will it be and will there be any loss due to it?
Arvind Kejriwal said that if these companies say that E-20 is safe, then will they compensate for the loss in mileage and will they compensate for the loss of components? I hope that all the companies will respond to this because this is a very serious matter for all consumers. I hope all the companies respond within a week, because everyone’s owner manuals say one thing and publicly some companies have said something else.
Also talked about going to petrol pump and service center
Arvind Kejriwal said that on Thursday I will visit some petrol pumps, service centers and some mechanics. I will talk to people and see what they say. The government is adamant that it will impose E-20 on everyone. The government says that it is safe, it does not do anything, the mileage is reduced a little and it is not causing any harm. But what are the people saying, what is the public’s experience?
