Is Hormuz open or closed? Iran and US have their own claims, now Trump’s big statement

US President Donald Trump claimed on Sunday that the Strait of Hormuz is open to commercial traffic, even as military attacks between the US and Iran continue, raising concerns over security on one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes. Trump made this comment during an interview on NBC’s Meet the Press.

us President This statement comes after Iran’s Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) said that ships cannot currently pass through the Strait of Hormuz due to “recent illegal actions” by the US military forces. The authority said shipping applications would be processed only when “stability and peace” returns.

On the other hand, the United States Central Command or CENTCOM also issued a statement on Sunday insisting that the ships are passing through the Strait of Hormuz, while Iran claims to have closed it, sparking a new flare-up of the Middle East war. It is said on the X, “Iran does not control the strait. Traffic is moving. Please note that CENTCOM oversees American forces in the Middle East.

He also said the Strait of Hormuz is open to all ships and US military forces are “deployed and ready” to ensure freedom of navigation. Earlier, the US-backed Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC) also said the southern Omani route through the strait was open to two-way commercial traffic, although it warned that the threat to maritime security remained “severe”.

Hormuz Strait is closed…Iran claims

However, other news outlets such as Al Jazeera are reporting that Iran has issued a statement claiming that no travel through the strait is possible until ‘stability is restored’.

According to Al Jazeera, Iran’s Persian Gulf Strait Authority says transit through the Strait of Hormuz is not currently possible due to “recent illegal activities of United States military forces in the area.”
