There was tension going on between America and Iran regarding nuclear for a long time. According to the New York Times report, Iran has agreed to give up its stockpile of Highly Enriched Uranium under the proposed agreement with the US. Iran has 440 kg of enriched uranium. In a way, this is being considered as Iran’s surrender.
According to the report, Iran has surrendered before America. He has agreed to give his enriched uranium to America. An announcement on this can be made any time. It is believed that this step can prove important in ending the long-running conflict between the two countries and restoring normal movement in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran gave signals
According to the report, US officials say that Iran has indicated that it is ready for an agreement on the issue of its enriched uranium reserves. However, the exact mechanism on how the uranium will be handed over has not been finalized yet and will be discussed only after the formal agreement is signed.
Included in Washington’s main demands
The uranium issue has long been one of Washington’s major demands. Initially, Iran was against including this topic in the first phase of talks and wanted to postpone it till later discussions. But American negotiators gave clear indications that if Tehran does not show initial commitment on this issue, then America can leave the talks and start military action again.
Plan to target nuclear sites
According to the report, the US Army had also prepared options to target Iran’s nuclear facilities in recent days. These included options like bunker buster attack on the underground nuclear center in Isfahan and joint US-Israel commando operation. However, these plans did not get final approval.
How dangerous are Iran’s uranium reserves?
According to the estimates of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Iran has about 970 pounds of uranium which has been enriched up to 60 percent. Israel claims that if this uranium is further enriched, many nuclear weapons can be made from it.
Constant pressure on Iran
In view of this threat, America and its allies are continuously putting pressure on Iran. A proposal has also come up in the talks that Iran can hand over its uranium reserves to Russia. A similar model was adopted during the 2015 nuclear deal, which was implemented during the tenure of the then US President Barack Obama.
Trump said- agreement almost certain
US President Donald Trump also recently claimed that an agreement to end the conflict is almost finalized. He said that now only the final terms and technical aspects remain to be discussed. Trump described the proposed arrangement as a memorandum of understanding related to peace.
According to sources, the draft agreement could include a formal declaration of the end of the war, reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and starting new talks on Iran’s nuclear program within the next 30 to 60 days.
Tension increased from 28th February
After the attacks by America and Israel in February, tension between the two sides had increased considerably. The ceasefire has been in force since April, but the situation still remains extremely sensitive. If talks fail, there is a possibility of resumption of military action. Meanwhile, instability in the Strait of Hormuz is continuously affecting the global oil market and energy supply. Iran has also reiterated its demand for sanctions relief and access to its assets held abroad for any comprehensive agreement.
