Iran gave a blow to America, refused direct talks in Doha

July 1, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Iran has made it clear that it will not hold direct talks with America at present. This has dealt a major blow to the hopes of a permanent peace agreement between the two countries. Iran says that all the conditions of the ceasefire signed two weeks ago should be fully implemented. Only after this can talks be held on big issues like nuclear programme. Under the current agreement, Iran has to reduce its strictness on the Strait of Hormuz. In return he will get financial relief. Also, there will be talks between the two countries for 60 days, so that a permanent peace agreement can be reached.

But it is clear from the latest developments that both the sides still do not agree on many important issues. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff reached Qatar’s capital Doha for talks. The White House called it a high-level conversation, but Iran made it clear that it would not have any direct meeting with the American delegation. Negotiations will take place only through mediators.

Iran ruled out direct meeting in future also

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said that technical level talks can start between the two countries at the moment. Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghai said that no direct meeting is scheduled at any level with America in the coming days.

Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal report claimed that President Trump has also considered the option of taking military action against Iran again if necessary. He discussed this with Defense Minister Pete Hegseth and senior army officers. However, for now, Trump has decided to give more time to diplomacy instead of military action.

Iran said- will collect toll in Hormuz

The Strait of Hormuz, which was affected during the war, has now partially reopened. But Iran says that it and Oman have rights on this waterway. Iran has indicated that after completion of the 60 day period, toll (fee) can be imposed on ships passing through here.

US Vice President JD Vance opposed this and said that America will not under any circumstances allow Iran to collect toll from ships passing through this route. He also said that the supply of oil from Hormuz has now returned to pre-war levels.
