
Iran targeted two oil tankers of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the Strait of Hormuz on Monday night. An Indian sailor was killed in an Iranian cruise missile attack, while eight other crew members were injured. The condition of four of the injured is said to be serious. The UAE Defense Ministry has confirmed this attack.
The UAE Defense Ministry said in a post on Twitter that tankers named ‘Mombasa’ and ‘Al Bahia’ were targeted by two Iranian cruise missiles while passing through the southern shipping lane of the Strait of Hormuz, within the maritime limits of Oman.

An Indian died on board ‘Mombasa’ tanker
The ministry confirmed that an Indian crew member on board the tanker ‘Mombasa’ was killed and eight others were injured in the attack, including six Indians and two Ukrainian nationals. Both ships were damaged due to the fire, but the fire has been brought under control. The UAE condemned the attack, calling it a serious violation of international law and reserved its right to retaliate.
Strong condemnation of Iran’s attack
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has strongly condemned Iran’s attack on oil tankers named ‘Mombasa’ and ‘Al Bahia’ with two cruise missiles within the maritime limits of Oman in Hormuz. On the death of an Indian citizen in this attack, MoFA expressed its deep condolences to the Government of India and the people there. The ministry stressed that the attack is a flagrant violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817 and called for an immediate halt to all hostile activities and the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
