
Uttar Pradesh has finally got its permanent Director General of Police (DGP) after a long wait of four years. IPS Rajeev Krishna, who was till now working as the acting DGP, has been appointed as the permanent DGP of the state. After completion of deliberations at the government level on the list submitted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has approved the appointment of the current acting police chief as the permanent DGP. An order has been issued in this regard.
It is being told that after a meeting held on May 26, UPSC has sent a panel of names to the state government, which included 1990-batch IPS officer Renuka Mishra, 1991-batch IPS officer Piyush Anand and Rajeev Krishna. Of these, the name of Rajeev Krishna was considered to be the strongest contender. Eventually, Chief Minister Yogi also approved his name. It is being said that Rajiv Krishna was the first and last choice of CM Yogi. Therefore, he decided to make Rajiv the permanent DGP of the state.
Was working as acting DGP from June 1, 2025
Actually, IPS Rajiv Krishna was working as acting DGP from June 1, 2025. Rajeev Krishna, a 1991-batch IPS officer, is known for his extensive administrative and field experience in the police department. He has held important responsibilities in many important districts and zones of the state. It is believed that even as the acting DGP, he did a lot of work on a large scale regarding crime control in the state. Also took strict action against crimes.
