IPL Final: Who stopped Gujarat Titans? This trouble came to Shubman Gill’s team 24 hours before the final

May 30, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Gujarat Titans, captained by Shubman Gill, made it to the finals of IPL 2026. By defeating Rajasthan Royals in the second qualifier, Gujarat registered its name in the final of this league for the third time. But a day before the final, Gujarat’s preparations got a setback as the team got late in the night to reach the final’s venue Ahmedabad. Due to rain and storm in Punjab-Rajasthan, Gujarat team could not reach Ahmedabad on time.

This final is to be played between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Titans on Sunday 31st May at Narendra Modi Stadium. But while Bengaluru has already reached Ahmedabad from 27th May, Gujarat got less time for this. Gill’s team GT played its second qualifier match on 29 May, which was played in New Chandigarh. In such a situation, the team had to reach Ahmedabad with only one day’s break before the finals, but the weather created obstacles on the way.

According to the information, the Titans squad was to take off from New Chandigarh on the afternoon of Saturday, May 30, but the effect of storm and rain was seen in North India including Punjab. Similar conditions persisted in Rajasthan also and a sand storm also passed over the state. In such a situation, Gujarat Titans’ flight got delayed, due to which the team was expected to reach its hotel only after 11 pm.

Now if the team had taken the flight on time, it would have reached its hotel in Ahmedabad in the next 3-4 hours. In such a situation, the players would get enough time to rest. It was already decided that Gujarat players would not do any practice on Saturday, but due to the flight delay, the team did not get enough time to rest. On the other hand, Bengaluru players not only practiced but also took good rest.

Now whether this will affect the performance of the players in the final or not, it will be known only on the evening of 31st May. However, this should not be much of a problem for Gujarat because the team will play on its home ground, where almost all the players have got used to playing since last season. Also, in the same season the team has already defeated Bengaluru once at the Modi Stadium. In such a situation, the players do not lack experience.
