New information is coming out about Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro. Now a new leak has revealed that the thickness of this model may be more than that of the iPhone 17 Pro launched last year. This increase in thickness is said to be due to hardware upgrades, which include a new camera system with variable aperture and a larger battery.
Based on information shared on Chinese microblogging platform Weibo, a report states that the thickness of iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max can be between 9.9mm to 10.9mm. In comparison, the thickness of the iPhone 17 Pro series is said to be 8.75mm, while the iPhone 16 Pro model was 8.25mm thick. If this leak proves to be true, then iPhone The 18 Pro may be a little thicker than the Pro models that have come in the last few years.
Why is iPhone 18 Pro getting fat?
According to Moneycontrol, the leaked information states that Apple is increasing the thickness of the phone’s body (chassis) to install a camera with variable aperture. Unlike fixed aperture, variable aperture can be given in this phone which allows users to decide how much light gets to the camera sensor. This can improve photography in different types of lighting and provide more control over depth of field. It is believed that one of the main reasons for the increase in thickness is the larger camera hardware.
Expecting a bigger battery
There is also a hope of installing a bigger battery in the remaining space inside the chassis. According to the report, the iPhone 18 Pro may have a 4288mAh battery, which is slightly larger than the 4252mAh battery of the iPhone 17 Pro. An even bigger upgrade can be seen in the iPhone 18 Pro Max, which will have a 5567mAh battery, whereas the iPhone 17 Pro Max had a 5088mAh battery. If this information is correct, then by increasing the battery capacity the phone can provide more battery backup.
