Before the assembly elections in Punjab, the politics there has intensified. The internal strife has intensified after the Congress, which is trying to return to power, took a decision regarding the organization. There is a lot of resentment over the decision to keep Amarinder Raja Vading as Congress President in Punjab. Congress MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa is also said to be unhappy with the high command. Meanwhile, Randhawa has raised the political temperature of the state by meeting the Home Minister on Friday.
However, senior Congress leader Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa termed the meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi as non-political. Also claimed that this meeting was held regarding the security situation in the border state of Punjab and concerns related to the border. He said, “My meeting with the Union Home Minister was completely non-political. This meeting should not be seen from a political perspective.”
The meeting was already fixed: MP Randhawa
Randhawa said that he had already made an appointment with the Home Minister and this meeting was held to discuss important issues related to law and order in Punjab. He said, “I had written a letter to the Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) on June 4, 2026 and also sent a copy of it to the Home Minister. In this letter, the situation in Punjab, especially in the border districts like Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran and Pathankot, was mentioned. I raised concerns about deteriorating law and order, Pakistan-backed terrorism, narco-terrorism, nexus between gangsters and politicians and Along with raising serious issues like political use of Punjab Police, I also gave information about the notorious gangsters operating in my area.
He further said, “After this, on June 23, I sent another letter, in which it was told how gangsters are working in Gurdaspur and other areas. On the basis of these letters, I was called for today’s meeting, in which we discussed the findings mentioned in the last paragraph of my previous letter.”
Extortion and threats across Punjab
Randhawa said, “During the meeting, I mentioned the presence of central agencies like Intelligence Bureau (IB), Military Intelligence (MI), Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). I also emphasized that today extortion and threats have become common across Punjab.”
“During the meeting, they acknowledged that large-scale extortion and threats are being made, and mobile phones are being continuously used from inside prisons. I believe that if the Government of India believes that the current situation is a threat to national security and Pakistan is directly interfering in it, then it cannot shy away from its responsibility.”
Performing his duty with full honesty: Randhana
Randhawa also reiterated his commitment towards Congress and said that he is honestly fulfilling his responsibilities given by the party. He said, “I hold an important post in the Congress and I am performing my duty with full honesty.”
However, while responding to a question related to the alleged differences between former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and the Congress high command regarding the reshuffle in the organization, Randhawa refused to comment and said that Channi himself would be the best person to answer such questions.
