Madhya Pradesh High Court has removed the interim stay imposed on conducting the main examination of State Service Examination (SSE)-2025 of Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC). With this decision, the one-year wait of about 4,000 candidates seeking appointment to Deputy District Magistrate, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Tehsildar and other state level posts has ended. Candidates who have passed the preliminary examination will now be able to appear in the main examination. A division bench of Acting Chief Justice Vivek Rusia and Justice Pradeep Mittal passed this order on Thursday while hearing petitions challenging some provisions and procedures related to the examination process.
The High Court had directed on April 2, 2025 that the main examination of the State Services Examination should not be conducted without its permission. Senior advocate Rameshwar Thakur, appearing for the petitioners, argued that a final decision on their petitions was unlikely to be taken in the near future. In such a situation, the stay on the main examination should be lifted and the remaining legal issues can be heard separately later.
Why has the challenge been given in the court?
Rameshwar Thakur said that accepting this request, the division bench removed the interim stay and allowed MPPSC to conduct the main examination. Among other things, the petitions have challenged the constitutional validity of the rules related to not making public the category-wise cut-off marks in the results of the preliminary examination of SSE-2025.
Rameshwar said that the petitioners have also raised the question that meritorious candidates from the reserved category were not selected on unreserved posts. Candidates who availed age relaxation and other concessions were not transferred to unreserved category.
He said that during the hearing, MPPSC handed over the category-wise cut-off marks to the court in a sealed cover, but did not give any clear answer on the issues raised in the petitions. The next hearing of this case will be on July 17.
