After the formation of the new government of Tariq Rahman in the neighboring country Bangladesh, it was expected that Islamic fundamentalists would be curbed. But this does not seem to be happening, rather his pressure has only increased. You can guess this from the fact that a ban has been imposed on the construction of an 81 feet tall statue of Lord Ram in Gaibandha, Bangladesh. Human rights organization JMBF expressed concern about this and alleged that the government took this decision under pressure from Islamic fundamentalist groups.
In protest against this, the Hindu community there took to the streets and staged a massive protest. He has condemned the attack on religious sentiments by burning torches. In view of this situation, the Indian government has demanded the Bangladesh government to take strict action tomorrow i.e. Tuesday. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that India has full hope that the Bangladesh government will rein in the radicals there and ensure complete security of the Hindu minorities.
The construction work of the statue was stopped on June 12.
According to human rights organization Justice Makers Bangladesh in France, as soon as the idea of making an idol in the temple came to light earlier this month, local Islamic organizations strongly opposed it. Rallies were taken out to protest, press conferences were held and complaint letters were submitted to government officials. Due to deteriorating atmosphere and fear of violence, the temple administration stopped the construction work of the idol on June 12.
This construction had to be stopped due to threat to the safety of Hindu society. This incident is against Bangladesh’s own constitution and human rights norms of the world. The organization has demanded from the government to conduct an impartial investigation into this entire matter without any bias.
Religious minorities repeatedly targeted in Bangladesh
Let us tell you that religious minorities are being targeted again and again in Bangladesh. In the last few years, incidents of communal violence and attacks on places of worship have been happening from time to time. India has repeatedly expressed concern over the safety of Hindus and other minority communities in Bangladesh following the unrest and political instability. Despite this, things are not getting better.
