Instead of providing justice, BJP government is busy in crushing the victim’s family… Kharge lashed out at Meerut Dalit girl’s murder case.

July 10, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Politics is intensifying in the case of murder of a Dalit girl in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh. Congress is continuously protesting on this massacre. Party’s national president Mallikarjun Kharge fiercely targeted the BJP government on this matter. He said that instead of listening to the voice of the victim’s family, the government is trying to crush those demanding justice.

Kharge said in his post on social media platform

‘Every day 12 Dalit women are raped’

Referring to NCRB data, the Congress President said, “Between 2013 and 2024, crimes registered against women in the country have increased by about 42.6% and crimes against Scheduled Castes have increased by about 41%. Every 2 hours and 3 minutes, a Scheduled Caste (SC) woman is raped in the country, which means every day, cases of rape are registered against 12 Dalit women. These are not just figures, under the BJP rule, women, Dalits and the underprivileged are being raped. There is also evidence of increasing insecurity.”

The brutal murder of Lalita Gautam, a Dalit student from Meerut, has once again exposed the anti-women and anti-Dalit face of the BJP’s double engine government. The victim’s family is pleading for justice, but instead of listening to their voice, the government is busy suppressing those demanding justice.

He further said, “When Congress leaders come to stand with the victim’s family, they are arrested, detained and stopped with the help of sticks. After all, what truth does the Yogi government want to hide? Why are the people of the opposition being stopped from meeting the victim’s family? Why is there police repression instead of listening to the family and giving them justice?”

Same oppressive attitude repeated in Meerut: Kharge

Referring to some previous cases related to rape, Mallikarjun Kharge said, “In Hathras and Unnao also, the country had seen how the BJP government suppressed the voices of the victims and tried to save those in power. Now the same oppressive attitude is being repeated in Meerut.”

Demanding justice for the victim’s family, Kharge said, “The victim’s family needs justice, not lathicharge and detention. The culprits in the case should be given the harshest punishment and suppressing the voice of the victim’s family should be stopped immediately. Remember, the rise of the voices of the Dalits, the deprived and the oppressed will soon uproot the BJP from its throne of power!”

Police said that the body of a 20-year-old Dalit girl, who went missing from Tipi Nagar area of the district on May 15, was found in Rohta area on May 17. The main accused in the case, Ankush Kumar, was arrested the next day on 18 May. Another accused was also arrested for hiding evidence. Many people have been detained so far in the case.
