Infertility Reasons: How job itself is taking away the happiness of becoming a parent! Expert told the whole truth

June 29, 2026 by Uma Shankar

The fertility of women in India has decreased to 1.9 today. This figure has come out in the NFHS-6 report. If seen, the average fertility should be above 2 whereas it is continuously decreasing in the country. There can be many reasons behind infertility, one of which is job culture. Women and men are so busy with the stress of their work that their job itself is taking away the joy of becoming parents.

Many researches have found that job stress is linked to people’s infertility related problems. Let us tell you how this routine of job and busy life is making people victims of infertility.

What does fertility mean?

Ayurvedic doctor Chanchal Sharma says that fertility is a person’s ability to have a child naturally. As simple as it sounds, it is also a delicate subject. There are many ways in which your corporate routine can hinder your fertility.

How corporate culture is increasing the fear of infertility

Desk Potato- Have you ever noticed how long you sit at your desk between work hours? People think that concentration and continuity are necessary to work, hence sitting for long periods of time is considered common. However, this trap of constant sitting is eating away at your strength, causing your muscles to become stiff. This happens when you try to move the muscles suddenly. This not only causes back pain, but also slows down the blood circulation in your pelvic area, which affects your fertility.

Melatonin Trap- We often assume that the blue rays emitted from our screens only interfere with our sleep. But in reality those blue rays can prevent the production of melatonin hormone in the body. Melatonin not only helps in getting better sleep but it is also an effective antioxidant that protects women’s eggs from any kind of damage.

Coffee culture- Many researches have shown that pregnant women who drink more than three cups of coffee daily face the risk of reduced ability to conceive or it may reduce by up to 50%. This is because caffeine inhibits the natural activities in the fallopian tubes, which hinders the chances of successful conception and natural pregnancy.

Increasing age and taking late decisions- Today’s busy work environment has hindered the decision of family planning among the young generation. The result of this is that family planning is done late, due to which the fertility of women is affected due to lack of age. At the time of birth, the quantity of a woman’s eggs is fixed. When a woman turns 30 years of age or older, the number of eggs starts decreasing, which is also called low AMH. By the time she is ready to conceive, her body is tired, so she may find it difficult to conceive.

Stress cycle is also the reason- Deadlines, constant meetings, pressure to deliver results on time create a lot of stress on the brain which leads to release of cortisol, which is the main stress hormone. Prolonged high levels of cortisol interfere with the production of LH and FSH, which also affects the ovulation cycle of some women. In simple words, fertility loses its importance during times of stress. This is the reason why many women experience hormonal imbalance or unbalanced periods due to job stress.

Exposure to chemicals and toxins: If you work in the manufacturing, chemical or health care industry, you may also be exposed to their side effects. Hidden bacteria around you, which go unnoticed. These chemicals can interfere with your hormones, which can affect your fertility.

What the experts said: Suggestion: Expert Chanchal Sharma says that taking precautions and wearing protective gear can reduce the risk of infertility. Therefore, it is very important to find and implement measures to reduce job stress among people.
