Pakistan is upset after the cancellation of Indus Water Treaty. India often receives harsh warnings from the neighboring country which is facing water shortage. Meanwhile, Pak Army Chief Asim Munir has threatened. He says that Pakistan will take all necessary steps to ensure the country’s share of water under the Indus Water Treaty.
In fact, after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on April 22 last year (2025), India took strict action against Pakistan and on one hand gave a befitting reply with Operation Vermillion, while on the other hand it gave a deep injury by suspending the Indus Water Treaty of 1960. Under which there was a provision for distribution and use of water of Indus River and its tributaries.
‘Will take every necessary step for water’
According to the information, Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir held a conference with the corps commanders at the Army Headquarters in Rawalpindi on Monday (July 6). In which India’s strict stance regarding the Indus Water Treaty was discussed. During this, Pakistan Army said that every necessary step will be taken to ensure water supply to the country. A statement issued by the Army said that it was resolved in the conference that all necessary steps will be taken to ensure water supply to the country as per the instructions of the government and the expectations of the people of Pakistan.
Along with this, the instructions of the National Security Committee (NSC) meeting held on 24 April 2025 were also confirmed in this meeting. In that meeting, it was decided that any action to stop or divert water from Pakistan’s share would be considered an act of war. While reviewing the current security situation, the Corps Commanders expressed satisfaction over the operational capability, professional proficiency and combat readiness of the Pakistan Armed Forces.
‘India is using water as a weapon’
Earlier on Monday, Pakistan Peoples Party President Bilawal Bhutto had also threatened India. He had alleged that India was using water as a weapon. He had said that we will never compromise on this. Pakistan is also ready to fight for this. Recently, Pakistan’s Climate Change Minister Musadiq Malik had said that whoever touches the water of Pakistan’s part, his hands will be cut off. At the same time, Pakistan’s Information Minister Ataullah Tarar had also threatened India of dire consequences.
India’s clear stand
Here India’s stand is completely clear regarding the Indus Water Treaty. The government has clearly said that the Indus Water Treaty will remain suspended until cross-border terrorism stops, until Pakistan stops supporting terrorism.
