
The Indian Coast Guard on Saturday inducted ‘ICGS Akshay’ into the fleet to strengthen maritime security, search, rescue operations and coastal surveillance. It is a new generation fast patrol vessel built by Goa Shipyard Limited. This indigenous ship was formally commissioned into service in the presence of senior Coast Guard officials and government representatives at a ceremony held at ‘Goa Shipyard Limited’, Vasco.
Designed and built by ‘Goa Shipyard Limited’, the ship has been constructed under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make in India’ initiatives of the Central Government, showcasing the indigenous shipbuilding capability of the country.
Indian Coast Guard gets ICGS Akshay
In fact, the Indian Coast Guard achieved an important achievement on Saturday by inducting the new generation Fast Patrol Vessel ICGS Akshay into service at Goa Shipyard Limited, Goa. The ship was formally commissioned into service by Parma Sen (IA&AS), Additional Secretary (Personnel), Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance.
Inspector General Bhisham Sharma (PTM, TM), Commander, Coast Guard Region (West), Inspector General Jyotindra Singh (TM), Deputy Director General (HRD), senior officials of Central and State Governments and representatives of Goa Shipyard Limited were also present on the occasion.

Named ‘Akshay’ – meaning ‘indestructible’ – the ship symbolizes the unwavering spirit, strength and determination of the Indian Coast Guard in protecting the maritime interests of the country. This reflects our unwavering dedication towards ensuring safe and clean seas as well as maintaining the confidence reposed in the force.
Growing strength of marine ecosystem
Designed and built by Goa Shipyard Limited, ICGS Akshay is another significant achievement in indigenous shipbuilding and reinforces the government’s vision of self-reliance under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make in India’ initiatives. The induction of this ship into service highlights the growing strength of India’s domestic shipbuilding capabilities and maritime ecosystem.
ICGS Akshaya will help in fulfilling the various responsibilities of the Indian Coast Guard in the maritime domain, which include enforcement of maritime law, search and rescue, coastal security, marine environment protection and assistance to seafarers in distress.
Glorious tradition of national service
Under the command of Commandant (JG) Deepak Choubey, ICGS Akshay and her crew are joining the Indian Coast Guard fleet, carrying forward the proud tradition of professionalism, vigilance and service to the nation. The induction of ICGS Akshay into service is another step towards the ongoing modernization of the Indian Coast Guard, reiterating its commitment towards maritime security and environmental protection in support of a safe and strong maritime India.
