Indian Navy’s indigenously built Survey Vessel Large (SVL) INS Ikshak arrived at Port Victoria, Seychelles on June 26 as part of its operational deployment in the South-West Indian Ocean region. The visit coincides with the 50th National Day celebrations of Seychelles, which reflects the long-standing maritime partnership and deep friendship between India and Seychelles. During her port stay, INS Ikshak will participate in the National Day celebrations of Seychelles and will have a number of professional interactions with the Seychelles Defense Forces with a view to enhance maritime cooperation and interoperability.
The ship will also undertake community outreach initiatives, including medical camps and distribution of essential goods, which will further strengthen the goodwill and people-to-people ties between the two countries. During this visit, INS Ikshak will also be opened for visitors, which will give them an opportunity to understand the capabilities of the Indian Navy and its commitment to promote regional maritime safety, security and cooperation.
Success of self-reliant India initiative
More than 80 percent indigenous material has been used in the INS Ikshak ship, which shows the success of the Self-reliant India initiative. The ship also has a helicopter deck, which enhances its operational capability and enables it to carry out multi-domain missions.
