June 11, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Recently a news came that the neighboring country Nepal has banned the king of fruits, mango, i.e. it has banned the import of Indian mango. But this was just a rumour. Now Nepal has broken its silence on this. Nepal has clearly said that there will be no ban on Indian mangoes. The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare here said that no ban has been imposed on the import of Indian mangoes. Nepal has said that import of Indian mangoes will continue as before. The Agriculture Ministry advised to avoid rumours.

In fact, ever since the news of ban on Indian mangoes in Nepal came to light, concern had increased among mango growers, traders and exporters. But on Wednesday, the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare there rejected the news in which it was claimed that Nepal has banned the import of Indian mangoes. Nepal termed such news as wrong and misleading.

There is no ban on Indian mangoes – Nepal

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare said in a statement that some media reports have claimed that Nepal has banned the import of Indian mangoes, which is completely false and misleading. Along with this, the ministry also said that sending mangoes from India to Nepal is continuing in full swing. Provided that the mango exporters meet all government regulations and plant health requirements (such as being pesticide free). Those who are following these rules are immediately getting permission to sell mangoes in Nepal.

18 consignments of 266 tonnes of mango sent in June

According to government data, since January this year till now, India has exported 149 consignments of 2005 tonnes of mango to Nepal. In the month of June alone, 18 consignments of 266 tonnes of mangoes have been sent so far. Nepal has not banned Indian mangoes, mangoes are being allowed to enter the country only after testing as per the rules.

Nepal said- it is necessary to follow the rules

Actually, Nepal has recently amended some of its import rules. Now hot water treatment has been made mandatory for mangoes coming from India. India is preparing to send mangoes to Nepal under this new rule. India has objected to the fact that Nepal did not hold any talks with India before implementing this new rule. This issue was also raised before WTO. Nepal government has asked mango traders not to pay attention to false rumors about ban on export of mangoes.
