Two major decisions were taken at a high-level review meeting in New Delhi today to take the Indian film industry forward. This meeting was held under the chairmanship of Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav. In a meeting with senior officials of the Ministry, the Minister has directed to immediately adopt structural methods to promote film production, strengthen distribution and technological integration.
For this, the Ministry has formed a high-level study group. Prasoon Joshi will chair this group. Industry experts and technology partners will also be included in this.
A study group was formed
Ministry This high level group formed by the Indian Cinema will study the opportunities and challenges facing Indian cinema. It will suggest ways to strengthen this sector. Along with this, this group will also tell about the steps to be taken to make Indian films more competitive at the international level.
Attention will be given to these issues
Apart from this, this study group will also focus on some other issues, like what is the impact of new technologies on cinema. These include Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Production. The group will also suggest how Indian filmmakers can use these tools.
How to get help for funding
This group will also tell how filmmakers can get institutional finance from the market and what can be the new funding options for film production.
- Working closely with state governments and other stakeholders.
- The group will identify best practices.
- This will prepare a complete plan for the long term development of Indian cinema.
- The study group will consult all relevant stakeholders across the country and submit a report to the ministry within three months.
Cinema infrastructure will increase in small places
It is the responsibility of the state governments to make rules for cinema and theatre. In this way, different states follow different rules for different approvals required for cinema and theatre. Because of this, it has been a major hindrance in the development of cinema infrastructure, especially in small towns and rural areas.
Model State Cinema Regulations’
The second decision is that now to rapidly expand the cinema infrastructure, the Ministry has prepared a set of model rules. These rules were prepared after discussions with all the concerned parties (stakeholders). The Ministry has now sent these ‘Model State Cinema Regulations’ to all the state governments. An appeal has been made to the states to adopt these. Along with this, the ministry will also help the states in implementing these rules.
Together, these two decisions will create a strong, modern and internationally competitive Indian film industry. With this, Indian cinema will remain a strong medium for promoting creativity, culture and new ideas.
