Another important step has been seen in the relations between India and Afghanistan. The six-day visit of Afghanistan’s Agriculture, Irrigation and Animal Husbandry Minister Mawlawi Ataullah Omari to India has clearly indicated that the dialogue between the two countries is continuously deepening. This is the fourth ministerial-level visit to Afghanistan after October 2025, which reflects the increasing contacts between the two sides.
Visited India from 7th to 12th July afghanistan Agriculture Minister Mawlawi Ataullah Omari met Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Food Processing Minister Chirag Paswan and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Pabitra Margherita.
Agreement in agriculture sector with Afghanistan
The most important discussion took place regarding agricultural cooperation. India assured Afghanistan of continued cooperation in climate-resilient and bio-fortified seeds, modern irrigation technologies, water conservation, watershed development and agricultural research. The two countries also discussed food security, seed systems, increasing crop productivity and strengthening agricultural trade.
In the meeting with Chirag Paswan, emphasis was laid on technology transfer, value addition, infrastructure and increasing bilateral trade of agricultural products in the field of food processing.
Meeting also held with business organizations
The Afghan delegation also met representatives of India’s leading agricultural and research institutions—NABARD, ICAR, IARI, CIMMYT, ICRISAT, CIP, IFDC—as well as FICCI and PHD Chamber of Commerce. Its objective was to explore new opportunities for agricultural research, capacity building and investment.
This journey is not limited to agricultural cooperation only. The continuous ministerial-level visits from Afghanistan after October 2025 are an indication that the scope of practical cooperation between India and Kabul is continuously increasing. On one hand, India is helping in the development and food security of the Afghan people, while on the other hand, efforts are also being made to strengthen the relations between the two countries through agriculture and trade.
