On one hand there is tension between America and Iran and on the other hand there is a war going on between Russia and Ukraine for more than 4 years. Due to this war, there is tension at the global level. All efforts to end this war have also proved unsuccessful. Currently, a new book published on Tuesday has claimed that during a discussion at the White House regarding the US strategy on the Ukraine war, US Vice President JD Vance had suggested that Indian or Saudi Arabian troops could be deployed as a peacekeeping force in Ukraine.
According to the new book “Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump” by New York Times journalists Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan, these things were said in the early stages of Trump’s second term. Just 10 days after the swearing-in, the Trump administration called a meeting in the Oval Office, in which retired Army Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg was briefing President Trump and his top advisors. The President appointed Kellogg as Special Presidential Envoy for Ukraine and Russia.
…but Indians will not do this: Trump
Haberman and Swann write that during the discussion, Kellogg introduced a proposal named “An America First Plan: Trumps Historic Peace Deal for Russia-Ukraine War”. The proposal stated that the United States would not formally recognize Russia’s claims to Ukrainian-occupied territories, but would include “a major concession that Ukraine will not attempt to regain lost territories by force.” With this in mind, non-NATO peacekeeping forces were discussed in the meeting.
The book says Vice President Vance asked, “Are there troops from other countries who could come in for this job?” After this he suggested calling troops from “Saudi Arabia or India”. The book further quotes the President as saying, “Trump smiled and said – Indians will not do this. They will not do anything like this.”
Important meeting regarding tariff on India
According to reports, Trump had said that he has a good relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to the book, Trump said, “PM Modi liked him very much and wanted to meet him, but Indians never pay for anything.”
In another chapter of the book, Trump again mentions India while discussing tariffs. The Technology CEO Council met at the White House on March 10, a few days after billionaire businessman Elon Musk, who worked as a “Special Government Employee,” had a rift with cabinet secretaries. Heads of many leading technology companies (IBM, Apache, Dell, HP Inc., Qualcomm and Intel) attended this meeting held in the Roosevelt Room.
‘India imposes 175% tariff on us’
US Commerce Secretary Howard Latnick asked officials, “What do we have to do to get you to build new factories in America?” While discussing tariffs in the same meeting, Trump mentioned India and claimed that India imposes up to 175% duty on American goods.
The book claims Trump then said, “Those who won’t make goods here will have to pay huge tariffs. Not 20%, but 100%. We are treated very unfairly. China imposes 150 to 200% tariffs on us and India imposes 175% tariffs on us.”
