The delivery of indigenous jet-based kamikaze drone system Peacekeeper (Agniveg) to the Indian Army has been completed. Indigenous defense company SMPP has handed over 100 operational drones and 6 training drones to the army. According to the company, these drones are capable of carrying out precise attacks deep inside the enemy and can complete the mission even amidst modern electronic jamming. This is being considered a big step towards strengthening India’s indigenous drone strike capability.
Ability to hit up to 180 kilometers
According to SMPP, the operational range of the Peacekeeper (Agniveg) drone is about 180 kilometers and it can attack at a speed of up to 450 kilometers per hour. This drone has been designed to target enemy command centers, radar stations, logistics hubs and military bases.
The company said that in recent user trials, the drone achieved a CEP (Circular Error Probable) of less than 5 meters, which means it is capable of hitting targets very accurately.
Also effective in electronic warfare
The biggest feature of the drone is that it can work even amidst electronic attacks like jamming and spoofing. Electronic warfare has become a big challenge in modern warfare, hence this capability is considered very important for the Indian Army.
Army’s strength will increase in modern war
Peacekeeper (Agniveg) is a turbojet based kamikaze drone, developed for precision strike against high-value targets. This system will strengthen the capability between conventional artillery and long-range missiles. This will give the army the option to conduct fast and accurate strikes at low cost, and will also reduce the risk to the soldiers.
Delivery completed in 6 months
Giving complete delivery to the army within just 6 months is a big achievement for India’s defense manufacturing sector. Precision, autonomy and affordability have become very important in modern warfare and such systems play the role of force multiplier in the battlefield.
Long range version will come in future
SMPP said that after completion of the existing order, the company has also offered the long-range advanced version of Peacekeeper (Agniveg) to the Army. The company is now also expanding its presence in areas like ballistic protection, drone and counter-drone systems, precision strike technology and large caliber ammunition.
