Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday praised the role of the Indian Navy in protecting the country’s maritime interests and said that India is playing the biggest responsibility of ensuring peace and stability in the Indian Ocean region. The sixth stealth frigate ‘Mahendragiri’ built under the indigenous Project-17A will be inducted into the Navy fleet on Saturday.
Before this ceremony, the Defense Minister was addressing the naval personnel in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Addressing the naval personnel, the Defense Minister said that the Indian Navy is not only protecting the country’s maritime borders, but is also playing an important role in ensuring the security of vital maritime trade routes and protecting India’s strategic interests in the changing global security scenario.

Rajnath Singh said that India is the biggest guarantee of peace and stability in the Indian Ocean region. He said that a major part of India’s total trade takes place through sea routes. Apart from this, the country’s energy security, security of Special Economic Zone (EEZ) and island areas also depend on maritime security. Therefore, maritime security is extremely important for India’s economic development and national interests.
Maritime vigilance more important than ever
The Defense Minister said that in view of the increasing geopolitical competition and the increasing presence of external powers, maritime vigilance has become more necessary than ever. The ceremony, to be organized at the Naval Dockyard in the port city, will be held in the presence of senior Navy officers and other distinguished guests. An official release said, ‘This ceremony, organized under the chairmanship of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, will be another important achievement in India’s defense sector self-reliance and indigenous warship construction.
