
US President Donald Trump described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as his great friend and said on Sunday night that India can trust him 100 percent. Trump made these comments at an event organized to commemorate the 250th anniversary of America’s independence. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and US Ambassador Sergio Gore were present in this program organized at Bharat Mandapam.
Trump said in a phone conversation with Sergio Gore that I want to say hello to everyone. I like the Prime Minister very much, (Narendra) Modi is great, he is my friend and I want to wish everyone a good evening. He said that I am a big fan of Prime Minister Modi.
‘We have never been so close to India before’
The US Ambassador placed his phone near the microphone to listen to Trump. The US President said, we have never been so close to India before and India can have 100 percent trust in me and our country. If they ever need help, they know where to call – this is where they’ll call.
American economy is performing well
Trump also claimed that the American economy is performing well. He said that we are doing well, we are making records. We have a record economy and a record stock market. The highlight of the program was Rahman’s performance, in which he sang popular songs like Dil Se, Maa Tujhe Salaam and Tere Bina.
I am a big fan of PM Modi: Trump
In his address, Trump described Rubio as the greatest Secretary of State in the history of America and in the end said, say my greetings to Prime Minister Modi and tell him that I am a big fan of his. In his brief address, Rubio described India as a major partner of America.
Jaishankar said that the American Declaration of Independence put forward ideas like individual liberty, rule of law, freedom of expression and accountable governance, which shaped the modern world. He said that these ideas have a natural resonance in a pluralistic and consultation-based society like India.
Rubio’s birthday was celebrated in the program
Jaishankar said that the world is currently going through a phase of change and this is a good opportunity to further strengthen India-US relations. The event also celebrated Rubio’s birthday and concluded with a performance by American band Village People.
