
Iran’s embassy in India on Sunday thanked the Indian government and its people. He expressed gratitude for attending the funeral of Iran’s former supreme leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and said that this step shows the deep historical, cultural and human relations between the two countries. “The Embassy of Iran in India expresses its heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the friendly government and people of India, and especially to the delegation that participated on behalf of the Government and people of India,” the embassy said in a post on Twitter. He attended and paid tribute to the funeral of Iran’s martyred leader, His Highness Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.
The embassy said that the presence of Indian political leaders, parliamentarians, scholars, intellectuals and representatives of different religions in these programs reflects the long-standing relations between the two countries. Gratitude to the people of India
The embassy also thanked Indian officials, celebrities and citizens who expressed sympathy for Iran following Khamenei’s death. The post further said, the Embassy of Iran in India once again expresses its heartfelt gratitude to all those Indian officials, eminent personalities and well-meaning people of India who stood with the people of Iran and expressed their sympathy in this hour of grief.
Indian delegation attended the funeral
India was represented by Minister of State for External Affairs Pavitra Margherita and Governor of Bihar Lieutenant General (Retd) Syed Ata Hasnain at the funeral ceremony held in Tehran. Senior Congress leader and former Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid also attended the funeral and paid tribute to Khamenei. Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti also attended the funeral and expressed solidarity with Iran.

Millions of people gathered in Tehran
Millions of people gathered in Tehran for the funeral ceremony, where Iran’s political and military leaders pledged to carry on his legacy and hold accountable those responsible for his death. Following Khamenei’s death, his son Mojtaba Khamenei was appointed the new supreme leader of the Islamic Republic. According to Al Jazeera, he is expected to skip the six-day funeral ceremony due to security concerns amid continued threats from Israel.
