June 7, 2026 by Uma Shankar

The meeting of the India Alliance will be held tomorrow (June 8) at the Constitution Club in Delhi to brainstorm on the changing political situation in the country. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh has claimed that 23 parties will participate in this meeting of the India Alliance. However, TVK will not attend tomorrow’s meeting. In Tamil Nadu, it has expressed its stand by giving Rajya Sabha seat to Congress which has 5 MLAs. Now a proposal will be made to include TVK in this meeting, after which the Indian alliance will take a decision.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said that some political parties have expressed their inability to attend this special meeting due to their own reasons. In a post on X, he said, 23 political parties have confirmed to participate in the meeting to be held on June 8 at 12 noon at the Constitution Club, New Delhi.

Some parties expressed inability to attend the meeting

Tagging Jairam Ramesh’s post, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Derek O’Brien said, the meeting is being held with a common purpose and clear intention. India is united. Many parties are eager for this meeting in the spirit of harmony. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said that some parties have expressed their inability to attend this special meeting due to their own reasons, but they have also expressed strong opposition to the policies and actions of the Modi government.

Government continuously attacking the Constitution

Ramesh said that the government is weakening the voting rights of crores of Indians, continuously attacking the Constitution, targeting opposition leaders through investigative agencies, damaging the livelihoods of crores of people, ruining the budget of families due to ever-increasing inflation, breaking the hopes and aspirations of millions of youth, affecting the investment climate and compromising national interests through its foreign policy.

He said that like India, the India Alliance is united despite its diversity. India Alliance is going to discuss its upcoming strategy and future action plan keeping in mind the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. In the meeting, preparing a common strategy to corner the government led by PM Narendra Modi on national issues will also be discussed.

Tension between some constituent parties of the alliance

This meeting is taking place at a time when tension is being seen in the relations between some of the constituent parties of the alliance. Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has decided to distance itself from the meeting in Tamil Nadu, accusing Congress of betrayal. At the same time, the Marxist Communist Party has expressed displeasure over top Congress leaders accusing the Left parties in Kerala of collusion with the BJP.

Political collusion between leftist parties and BJP

According to sources, CPI(M) General Secretary MA Baby has recently written a letter to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge seeking clarification on the comments of senior Congress leaders in which political nexus between the Left parties and BJP in Kerala was mentioned. The meeting is also taking place in the backdrop of the recently held assembly elections, in which TMC was voted out of power in West Bengal and DMK in Tamil Nadu.

Political equations changed in many states

Especially amidst the recent assembly elections and changing political equations in many states, this meeting is being seen as an attempt to further strengthen coordination and cooperation between the opposition parties. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has publicly distanced itself from the alliance, while the DMK has announced its decision to boycott the meeting this week.
