The Fourth India-Africa Forum Summit (IAFS-IV) has been postponed for the time being by the Government of India and the African Union. This conference was proposed to be held in New Delhi from 28 to 31 May 2026. Both sides have had in-depth discussions on the developing health situation in parts of Africa. During this, it was agreed to continue cooperation to strengthen public health preparedness and response capacity in the continent.
India reiterated its commitment to support Africa CDC and relevant national institutions. Expressing its solidarity with African countries and their people, India said that it is ready to extend full support to the ongoing efforts led by Africa CDC to deal with the current health crisis.
Why was the summit postponed?
To ensure full participation of African leaders and other stakeholders and keeping in mind the evolving health situation, several rounds of discussions have been held between the Government of India, the Chairperson of the African Union and the African Union Commission. After these discussions, both sides came to the conclusion that it would be appropriate to postpone the summit for the time being. New dates for the conference and related programs will be decided by mutual consent, which will be officially announced later.
India’s strengthening relations
It is noteworthy that India and Africa have once again reiterated their old and strong relations, which are based on solidarity, mutual respect, South-South cooperation, peace, development, prosperity and a shared commitment to the welfare of the people. While India is strengthening its relations with America, Gulf countries and European Union, India is also maintaining its cooperation with African countries. Which is a direct indication of India’s inclusive foreign policy.
