IND vs IRE: Will Team India’s tour of Ireland be cancelled? The chaos in Belfast gave tension to BCCI

June 12, 2026 by Uma Shankar

The Indian cricket team has to go on a tour of Ireland in the next few days, where it has to play 2 T20 matches. There is a lot of curiosity about this tour, which has generally not been seen in any previous series against Ireland. The reason is 15-year-old batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who has been selected in Team India for the first time and can make his debut in this series. But even before his debut, the series is in trouble because there is a violent uproar in Belfast, Ireland, which has worried the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Very violent protests have been taking place in Northern Ireland’s capital, Belfast, for the last few days. This led to a case of attempt to murder. Last week in Belfast, an immigrant man of Sudanese origin attacked a local Irish man with a knife in the middle of the road. During this time he also tried to behead.

The video of this incident went viral on social media, filling the entire Northern Ireland with fear and anger. This anger was visible on the streets, when hundreds of people demonstrated against non-Irish people and vandalized their houses, shops and vehicles and set them on fire.

The biggest center of this demonstration is the capital Belfast, where the most violent demonstrations have taken place. This has worried the Indian Cricket Board. According to a newspaper report, the board has expressed its concern regarding this and is keeping an eye on the situation. The board has also said that if Ireland Cricket Board makes any offer to them to change the venue, then BCCI will consider it.

The board has said that now it is up to Ireland Cricket to decide where to organize the matches. BCCI’s stand in this matter is clear that the safety of the players, coaching staff and officials associated with the team is of utmost importance to it. On the other hand, Ireland Cricket has also said that it is keeping an eye on the current situation of the incident and will take any decision in the coming time. Two T20 matches are to be played between India and Ireland in Belfast on 27 and 29 June.
