June 30, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Team India’s batting is under question after the surprising defeat in the T20 series against Ireland. Criticism is also coming because young batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who is in excellent form, was not given a chance in even a single match. Now the same issue is dominating the T20 series going to be held against England. Will Vaibhav debut this time? What Captain Shreyas Iyer has said on this has increased the uneasiness. He has said that every player who came to the team has performed well and his hands are also tied at the moment.

The first match of the T20 series between India and England will be played on Wednesday 1 July at Chester-le-Street, Durham. a day before this match Vaibhav Suryavanshi Batted fiercely in the nets and was seen facing all the major bowlers of Team India. This has raised hopes that perhaps the wait for Vaibhav’s international debut will be over. But after the practice session, Captain Iyer left everyone wondering with his answer to the question of debut.

Why did Shreyas Iyer say – hands are tied?

As expected, the question asked by the Indian captain was whether Vaibhav will get a chance to play for Team India for the first time? In response to this, Iyer said that his hands were tied that he could not tell about his plan. Iyer said, “We don’t know when what will happen. Right now our hands are tied as to what we can do because it is a very confidential matter. We discuss it only within the team. We cannot tell everyone what team combination we will take and let the opponents know what is going to happen.”

β€œIt’s not that only one individual (Vaibhav) has performed, others have performed too and it’s important to back them for providing security to players.”

‘Everyone has done good, not just one’

Praising Vaibhav, Iyer said that whenever he gets a chance, he will perform well but also said that those who have been selected in the team are also there because of their good performance. On the question of facing the challenge of feeding Vaibhav, Iyer said, “Whoever is playing in the team has performed well, it is not that only one person has done it. Our aim is to give opportunity and security to everyone so that everyone has confidence. Those who won the last World Cup, they know how to play and they have been doing so as well.”
