IND vs ENG: Team India faltered at Lord’s, lost 7 wickets for 95 runs, did not even cross the 300 mark

July 10, 2026 by Uma Shankar

The tour of England this season is not proving good for the Indian cricket teams. On one hand, the T20 World Champion Indian team has lost the T20 series to England for the first time, while the women’s team is also feeling disappointed. The Indian team, which was eliminated in the group stage of the Women’s T20 World Cup, did not make a very good comeback in the Test matches either. On the first day of the historic test match between India and England women’s teams at Lord’s, Team India could score only 285 runs in the first innings.

This match being played at Lord’s for the first time was eagerly awaited and tremendous enthusiasm was seen on the very first day of the match. Amidst this excitement, the Indian team came out to bat first but the first wicket fell in the second over itself, when opener Shefali Verma was out without opening the account. Whereas Yastika Bhatia also could not last long and India lost 2 wickets for 37 runs.

But despite the fall of 2 wickets, the first session of the first day was in the name of Smriti Mandhana. The Indian vice-captain played a composed and explosive innings and completed his half-century in just 50 balls. This is her fastest half-century in Test cricket and the third fastest half-century by an Indian female batsman. During this time there was a good partnership between Mandhana and Jemimah Rodriguez. Smriti’s brilliance continued in the second session also and this time she got the support of captain Harmanpreet Kaur, where both of them made a partnership of 89 runs.

When Team India’s score was 190 runs at the loss of 3 wickets, Mandhana was dismissed by Ishi Wong. Mandhana missed the century and came out after scoring 83 runs. From here onwards the Indian batsmen slowly started giving away their wickets. Captain Harmanpreet scored a half-century but she too kept walking again. Experienced all-rounder Deepti Sharma also played a fighting inning and scored 57 runs but she did not get good support from the other batsmen and Team India lost 7 wickets in just 95 runs. Star spinner Sophie Eccleston took maximum 3 wickets for England.
