IND vs ENG: 4 big reasons for Team India’s defeat in the second T20I against England

July 5, 2026 by Uma Shankar

India vs England 2nd T20I: In the second T20 match played against England at Old Trafford, Manchester, the Indian team had to face defeat in a close and ups and downs match. Although in this match a new star of India came to the world in the form of young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi, but the unbeaten inning of 76 runs in 46 balls of the host team’s Jacob Bethel overshadowed the hopes of Team India. Batting first, India scored 190 runs and gave England a target of 191 runs. At a time when England had lost 5 wickets for 133 runs and they needed 58 runs in the last 28 balls, then the match seemed completely in the hands of India. Due to the innings of Jacob Bethel, the England team managed to take a 1-0 lead in the series. There were four big reasons behind India’s defeat.

Ishan Kishan’s lazy batting

This pitch of Old Trafford was considered a heaven for batsmen. Ishan Kishan batted very slowly on such a pitch. He spent 40 balls to score 49 runs. In terms of T20 cricket, this strike rate was quite normal on this flat pitch. If Ishaan had scored a little faster, the Indian team’s score could have easily crossed 210 runs.

Ravi Bishnoi’s 3 no balls and expensive bowling

This match was like a nightmare for leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi. He gave away 60 runs in his quota of 4 overs without taking any wicket. The biggest villain of Bishnoi’s expensive bowling was his three no-balls. Bowling a no-ball in the T20 format is no less than a crime because it gives a free-hit to the opposition team. In moments of pressure, Bishnoi completely deviated from his line-length. Of which the England team took full advantage.

Harshit Rana’s flop show once again

The team had high expectations from young fast bowler Harshit Rana, but he failed to leave his mark in the second consecutive match. Rana bowled 3 overs and gave away 30 runs without achieving any success. There was neither that edge in his balls nor was he able to control the run rate, due to which the pressure on the captain kept increasing.

That over of Arshdeep Singh, which turned the tables

Arshdeep Singh, who was commanding the Indian fast bowling, made a good start in this match and achieved 2 successes in the very first over. But his second over proved very costly for the team. In this one over, Arshdeep bowled directionlessly and gave away a total of 27 runs. This over gave the England batsmen the momentum they desperately needed to make a comeback in the match.
