India was Awarded Five Penalty Runs: A unique sight was seen in the third ODI match between India and Afghanistan at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. Batting first in this match, Afghanistan scored 218 runs. But when the Indian team’s innings started in response to the target of 219 runs, 5 runs had already been added to their account, which attracted everyone’s attention. Team India got this advantage due to the mistake of Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi running on the pitch.
Why were 5 runs added to Team India’s account?
In the first innings, Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi played an amazing innings and scored his ODI century. Due to which the Afghan team was successful in reaching a respectable score. But on the last ball of the 40th over, he ran into the danger area of the pitch, which was a violation of the rules. This was his second such violation. Due to which the umpires took major action against his team.
According to MCC rules, batsmen are not allowed to run in the danger area of the pitch. For the first time a warning is given, but for the second time the opposition team is given 5 penalty runs. Due to this mistake of Shahidi, India got a lead of 5 runs without playing any ball. Due to which when Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal came to the crease, the scoreboard was already showing 5/0.
India created history in the very first over
The first over of Team India’s innings was also quite memorable. Azmatullah Omarzai was seen struggling to get the line, due to which he had to bowl a total of 10 balls to bowl 6 legal balls. The Indian team also took full advantage of this and scored a total of 23 runs in the first over, which also included 5 penalty runs. The special thing was that for the first time in the history of ODI cricket, the Indian team scored 23 runs in the first over of the innings. Earlier, India’s best score was 22 runs, which came against Bangladesh in 2004.
