But rain has spoiled the fun of the first match of the ODI series between India and Afghanistan. Due to rain in Dharamshala since last night, the match could not start on time, due to which the question has arisen whether the match will be canceled without any action?
In Dharamshala on Saturday 13th June India-Afghanistan The first match of the 3-match series was to start at 1.30 pm. The toss of the match was to be held at 1 o’clock but continuous rain in Dharamshala did not allow the toss to take place. Many fans reached the stadium to watch the Indian team play, but they were disappointed after reaching there because even when the rain slowed down, it continued intermittently, due to which the umpires did not even consider it appropriate to conduct the toss.
What will happen if the rain does not stop?
Now the question is, if not even a single ball can be played due to rain, will the match be cancelled? Or will the winner be decided by Super Over? If the rain stops then at least how many overs are required to be played? We give you the answers to all these here. First of all, the last time to start the match i.e. cut-off time is around 6:30 pm. That means if the rain stops after 6:30 pm then the match will not be started.
The reason for this is the rules of playing conditions related to ODI cricket. ICC has made a rule for ODI cricket match that if the match is interrupted due to rain or any other reason, then to reach any result it is necessary to have a game of at least 20-20 overs. That is, if the umpire is satisfied that the 20-20 over match can be started before 6.30 pm, then he will allow it, otherwise the match will not take place.
Will the decision be taken by super over?
This is like in a T20 match there should be at least 5-5 overs of play. But one big difference is that if the ODI match is not played at all then it will be cancelled. Yes, if you are thinking that if cricket action is not seen then the decision will be taken through Super Over then it is not so. ICC has not made this rule in ODI format. Especially in bilateral series, there is no provision of Super Over in case of cancellation of the match. This can happen only in knockout matches of ICC events. In ODI, Super Over happens only when the match is tied. That is, if the rain stops in Dharamshala but not even a single ball is possible to be played, then this match will be cancelled.
