If someone is born then his death is certain. He gets results depending on the kind of karma he performs between birth and death. The time when a human being dies and he travels to Yamalok has been duly explained in Garun Purana. Guru Purana contains a dialogue between Lord Vishnu and his vehicle Garuda. Garun asks God what kind of pleasures the soul has to suffer after death?
Lord Vishnu says that during the journey to Yamalok, two ferocious dogs named Shyam and Shabal guard the main gate of Yampuri. They only scare the sinful souls. Souls who follow the path of righteousness, mercy and truth enter Yamaloka peacefully because justice there is based only on karma. No matter what their position, social status or position may be.
Depending on the karma of the person, the soul can take birth in 84 lakh species including animals, birds, trees or other living beings. The birth of a human being is considered extremely rare and it is achieved only as a result of previous births. Narrating an illustration, Lord Vishnu explains that “Sage Vashishtha teaches his disciples that this physical body is like a garment, which the soul wears and when the appointed time comes it sheds it. This cycle of the soul continues in the form of birth and death. Liberation from this cycle is achieved only through devotion, knowledge and good deeds. At the time of death, chanting of Om, holy Ganga water and basil leaves are considered very important as these elements protect the departed soul. Provides peace and takes him on the path of the Goddess.”

It is said in Garuda Purana that a woman who understands religion and serves her family, attains heaven. The man who respects his wife, family and children attains Pitru Loka. On the contrary, the person who spreads discord and malice in the family goes to severe hell, where he has to suffer for a long time.

If Shraddha and Tarpan are not performed properly, the soul keeps wandering in the ghostly world. Lord Vishnu tells Garuda that whoever listens or reads Garuda Purana with devotion, all his sins are destroyed. Ultimately, such a person attains Vaikuntha Dham, the heavenly world of Lord Vishnu. Yamdoots take this soul forward according to its deeds and it gets the fruits of the deeds done by its family.
