The tenure of village heads in Uttar Pradesh ended today i.e. on 25th May, but despite this their role in the villages will continue. Actually, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has approved the proposal of Uttar Pradesh Panchayati Raj Department, under which only the existing village heads will be assigned the work as administrators. An order in this regard is likely to be issued by Monday evening.
Uttar Pradesh This will be the first time, when Administrative Committee will be formed in Gram Panchayats. Till now, in such a situation, the ADO Panchayat or Secretary of the villages was made the administrator and all the financial and administrative rights of the heads were abolished, but this time the government has adopted a different system, under which only the village head will continue to manage the village administration.
Actually, the three-tier Panchayat elections in the state could not be held on time. The election process was postponed due to lack of clarity regarding the situation regarding OBC reservation.
Panchayat elections will be held only after the assembly elections!
Now, even after the formation of the OBC Commission, the necessary preparations are expected to take at least six months. In such a situation, Panchayat elections are likely to be held only after the 2027 assembly elections.
Keeping this in view, the government has decided that administrators should be appointed in Gram Panchayats before May 26, so that the development work and administrative arrangements in the villages are not affected. Under the new system, the tenure of the Pradhans may have ended, but now they will continue to run the village government in the role of administrator.
Know what was the arrangement earlier?
This has happened many times in the past in Uttar Pradesh, when Panchayat elections could not be held on time. In such circumstances, the ADO Panchayat or Secretary posted in the villages was appointed as the administrator of the villages by the government. With these appointments, all the financial and administrative rights of the village heads were taken away.
Recently, village heads had protested in Lucknow against the proposal to appoint a secretary. Assembly elections are proposed in the state next year. In such a situation, the government is avoiding taking any major decision at the village level and has decided to appoint the village head as the administrator.
