What are the chances of NDA’s victory?
Nitin Nabin and BL Santosh, while giving state-wise information to BJP’s Central Election Committee (CEC), told what are the chances of victory of BJP and NDA in Rajya Sabha elections. It was also told in the meeting that in addition to the Rajya Sabha seats on which BJP’s tenure is ending and elections are about to be held, the party is expected to win 3-4 more seats.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggested that the concerned states should make complete preparations and detailed review regarding their respective Rajya Sabha seats. After this the party president should take the final decision. Also, the national president and the state unit were authorized to decide the names of the candidates for the seats of the Legislative Council.
Possibility of contesting elections on 10 to 11 seats
Out of the total 17 MLC seats in Maharashtra, BJP is likely to contest 10 to 11 seats, while the remaining seats will be distributed among the allies. Apart from discussions on the names of candidates for the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, BJP’s Central Election Committee meetings do not usually take place, hence a different meaning is being derived from this Sunday’s meeting.
Separate meeting of top BJP leaders
Considering the timing of the meeting and the presence of top decision makers of the party, it is also being discussed that the party leadership is also preparing for the formation of Nitin Nabin’s new team. After Sunday’s Central Election Committee meeting, a separate meeting of top BJP leaders was held with PM Modi. Nitin Nabin, BL Santosh, Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh were present in this meeting.
