Impact of Bengal defeat to Delhi? Mamata’s voice weakened even in India alliance, spoke only ‘two words’ in press conference

June 8, 2026 by Uma Shankar

After the defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections and the split in the party, not only has the grip of Trinamool Congress supremo and former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee loosened in Bengal, but Mamata Banerjee’s status in the Indian alliance has also declined. Mamata Banerjee, who was vocal during the India Coalition or Delhi tour, said only two words in the press conference of India Coalition on Monday. He said those two words to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge only. Apart from this, Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee did not say anything at the press conference of India Gathambadhan at the Constitution Club in New Delhi on Monday and remained silent.

Trinamool Congress after defeat in assembly elections in Bengal Is breaking. After the assembly elections, Trinamool has now divided in the Lok Sabha and when Mamata herself is in Delhi, there has been a rift in the parliamentary party and 20 TMC MPs have written a letter to the Speaker claiming to form a separate faction.

Meanwhile, leaders of the India Alliance held a meeting at the Constitution Club today. Mamta and Abhishek Banerjee attended that meeting. After that meeting, the alliance leaders held a press conference. There, Mamta was sitting on the right side of Kharge. Akhilesh Yadav, Omar Abdullah and Tejashwi Yadav were next to him and Rahul Gandhi was on Kharge’s left.

Mamta remained sitting quietly next to Kharge

Today, in the press conference at the Constitution Club, Mamata sat quietly next to Kharge. Mamta said two words in the press conference which lasted for about seven and a half minutes. ‘Atrocity, Virtually’. Kharge was talking about the decision taken for India alliance in the press conference today. Kharge said, “25 parties participated in today’s meeting. They gave their statements. All agreed on 5 points. First, a letter will soon be sent to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court regarding SIR. Second, the resignation of the Union Education Minister has been demanded. Third, there is a demand that the Center should call an all-party meeting on the current economic situation, unemployment, inflation, farmers’ issues and other issues related to the people.”

As soon as Kharge started telling the fourth point, Mamata told him the issue of atrocity. That is, in point number three he reminded them that the demand for calling an all-party meeting on the issue of atrocity was also discussed. Then Kharge again added the word atrocity in the third point.

Spoke only two words in the entire press conference

Mamta then said one more thing in the entire press conference, that too from Kharge. Kharge said in the fourth point that there will be a meeting of India Alliance every 2 months. The next meeting will be held in Hyderabad and in the fifth point he said that every morning during the monsoon session, there will be a coordination meeting at the house of the leader of the opposition. After that Kharge said that Uddhav Thackeray and Hemant Soren agreed on 5 points despite not being physically present in today’s meeting. Then Mamta said to Kharge, ‘Virtually’. That means Uddhav and Hemant attended the meeting virtually.

The leaders of the India Alliance got up from the press conference before answering any questions from the journalists. At that time it was seen that Mamta left the meeting first. Political experts say that Mamta has never been in such a situation before. When Trinamool was in power, she was quite vocal in the India alliance, but today Mamata appeared quite soft.

However, Mamata said in the meeting of India Alliance that Trinamool was forcefully defeated in Bengal. He claimed, “What happened in Bengal today, will happen in other states also.” Mamta separately mentioned the attack on Abhishek in Sonarpur in the alliance meeting. DMK and AAP were not present in the meeting.
