Activist Sonam Wangchuk has said that she will end her indefinite hunger strike. He said he would do so only if the government takes responsibility for the recent failures in the education system or the MPs assure him that the issue will be raised in Parliament. He said through a post on his social media X that if all these things are accepted then he will end the hunger strike on July 20. Today is the 23rd day of Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike.
In a handwritten note from Safdarjung Hospital, Wangchuk stated three conditions under which he would end his fast. He also alleged that he was being kept in “unlawful detention” in the hospital. Wangchuk wrote, “Dear friends and supporters, many of you have asked when I will end my fast. As my supporters were told earlier, I will end my fast on July 20.”
WHEN WILL I END THE FAST.!
Not withstanding my health my fast continues till after the Sansad Chalo March, and will be broken only under the following circumstances pic.twitter.com/kaOGx2Nk4T— Sonam Wangchuk (@Wangchuk66) July 20, 2026
Wangchuk said that if the government takes responsibility for recent failures in the education system (such as paper leaks), or if Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) MPs and leaders reach Parliament and political parties promise to raise the issue, they will end their fast. He said that if due to his health or other reasons he is unable to continue his fast, then if the MPs and leaders of different parties meet him in the hospital and give him the same assurance, then he will end it. The note written by him ultimately meant, “From illegal detention in Safdarjung Hospital, where my freedom of movement, speech and all forms of communication is restricted.”
These are the three conditions
- The government should take responsibility for the recent failures in the education system (like paper leaks etc.).
- Along with the leadership of CJP, MPs and leaders of various parties should assure to raise this issue in Parliament.
- If the above conditions cannot be fulfilled due to his health or any other reason, then the MPs and party leaders should come to the hospital and give the same assurance.
Protests gain momentum ahead of ‘Chalo Sansad’
Wangchuk issued this note when thousands of supporters gathered at Jantar Mantar ahead of CJP’s scheduled “Chalo Sansad” march on Monday. CJP founder Abhijit Dipke called for an overnight sit-in, while Wangchuk’s wife Geetanjali Angmo said her husband would end his hunger strike if political leaders assured her that they would raise the issue of education accountability in Parliament. The protesters are demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over irregularities in the education system, including the recent NEET paper leak and student suicides.
Delhi Police said that they will not allow the proposed march till Parliament. On social media
