ENG Women vs SA Women, ICC Women’s T20 World Cup: In the second semi-final match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, host England displayed a tremendous performance and defeated South Africa by 40 runs. In this match played in front of a record crowd of 21 thousand fans at The Oval ground in London, England recovered from the initial setbacks and secured the ticket to the final. Now on Sunday, England will face six-time champion Australia in the title match at the historic ground of Lord’s.

Strong comeback after bad start

After losing the toss and coming to bat first, England had a very bad start. South African fast bowlers Shabnam Ismail and Marizanne Cap destroyed England’s top order with their lethal bowling. Amy Jones was out after scoring 2 runs. After this, Marizanne Kapp bowled in-form batsman Danny Wyatt Hodge and then Shabnam Ismail trapped Alice Capsey lbw, reducing England’s score to 3 wickets for 23 runs in 3.2 overs. Meanwhile, Shabnam Ismail also became the first bowler in the world to complete 50 wickets in T20 World Cup history.

In difficult times, captain Nate Siver Brunt, who was returning after injury, and experienced Heather Knight took the lead. Both of them presented an unmatched example of wisdom and made a historic partnership of 133 runs for the fourth wicket, which is the biggest partnership in the knockout history of this tournament. Nate Siver Brunt played an amazing inning of 75 runs in just 47 balls with the help of 11 fours and 1 six. Whereas, Heather Knight scored 58 runs in 47 balls hitting 6 fours and 1 six. Thanks to the innings of these two, England scored 169 in 20 overs.

South Africa stuck in the maze of bowlers

South Africa had a great start while chasing the target of 170 runs. Captain Laura Wolvaardt and Tajmin Brittas added 43 runs for the first wicket. But an excellent catch by Sophie Eccleston broke this partnership by sending Wolvaardt to the pavilion. After this, the England bowlers completely tightened the noose on the match. South Africa’s opening batsman Tajmeen Britts held one end and played a fighting innings of 51 runs in 45 balls, but she did not get any support from the other end. Due to which they could score only 129 runs at the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs and lost the match by 40 runs.

Lauren Bell and Charlie Dean were the most successful bowlers from England. Both players took 2-2 wickets. At the same time, Lynsey Smith, Sophie Eccleston and Freya Kemp contributed significantly to the team’s victory by taking 1 wicket each.
